Garrowby Sawmill
Situated on the A166 York to Bridlington road close to the bottom of Garrowby Hill, Garrowby Sawmill is the base for the Estate's Building, Joinery and Forestry Departments.
A team of four joiners operate from the modern, well equipped Joiners' Shop producing a wide variety of windows, doors and miscellaneous items. Traditional skills are employed to make box sash and Yorkshire sliding sash windows incorporating double glazed units to conform to Building Regulations under the Head Joiner, Shaun Hannigan.
Although the joiners are predominantly involved in the maintenance and improvement of Estate properties, they are also available for contract work and any enquiries should be directed to the Clerk of Works, Malcolm Barmby at the Estate Office on 01759 368219.
The Building Department comprises a team of four who also possess a wide range of skills necessary for a diverse estate such as Garrowby, which has many listed buildings.
The Forestry Department also has a team of four and is responsible for the Estate's 1300 acres of woodland and for Estate maintenance, including erection of fencing and gates. The Department produces seasoned hardwood logs for sale to the public from managed, sustainable woodland. Christmas trees are also available as from 1 December and can be selected from a large stock at the Sawmill.
A range of fencing materials is also available at the Sawmill. All enquiries regarding logs, fencing etc should be directed to the Head Forester, Sean Edwards on: 07796 308153 or 01759 368587 after 5pm.
