Garrowby Stud, which is set within attractive parkland, is 14 miles east of York and 10 miles from Malton.
Located on the western edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, Garrowby Stud enjoys a private and peaceful setting and is accessed by way of a private drive from the A166 York to Bridlington Road.
Garrowby Stud was founded in 1962 by Lord Halifax and his father. For over 50 years it has produced top class horses including Shirley Heights, the winner of the 1978 English and Irish Derbies. The 1986 Ribblesdale Stakes winner Gull Nook – a 3 parts sister to Shirley Heights was bred at Garrowby. Further international recognition was achieved through the exploits of Mountain Lodge, Bedtime and Border Arrow along with the famous Wanton family bloodlines.
Top class facilities include four separate yards comprising of warm, well ventilated stables, an indoor school, horsewalker and lunging ring together with 100 acres of paddocks surrounded by mature hedges offering superb sheltered grazing.
Garrowby Stud offers both permanent and short-term boarding facilities for mares, foals and young stock and horses out of training.
There are excellent facilities for foaling including CCTV to allow 24 surveillance by experienced staff, nursery paddocks and indoor turnout areas if the weather is inclement.
The Stud uses a highly regarded veterinary practice and an experienced blacksmith who specialises in feet correction.
